Without tools, we would all still be living in caves.
Creating your own Internet marketing tools can move you from the cave to the mansion. Not only will it allow you to get ahead with your own marketing, it will also equip you with a product to market to others.
Having your own product puts you at the top of the affiliate marketing food chain.
Do you want to program but don’t know where to start?
I have good news for you, because I recently stumbled across a series of books that make programming seem easier than brushing your teeth.
Programming is best when you can get your hands on live, working code and have someone explain it to you. Until recently, I thought that was an impossible task. All I found were examples that seemed to be missing one thing or another and required that I read the whole book to understand a single concept.
Then I found two books that gave me everything I was looking for…and more.
Here are some cool things about Visual Basic 2008 How to Program (How to Program (Deitel)) and Simply Visual Basic 2008 (3rd Edition)
:
• Live Code: Each new concept is presented in the context of a working Visual Basic program. Each program is designed to make the concept it illustrates easy to comprehend.
• Syntax Coloring: The authors use a syntax color in all the Visual Basic code, so that it easy to distinguish the various elements of the code. The colors they use correspond to those used in popular code editors. This means you won’t get confused when you move back and forth between the textbook and live code.
• Code Highlighting: Key code segments stand out because they are highlighted.
• Programming Tips: Programming tips are included to help you focus on aspects of the program development. The tips are gleaned from six decades of programming and teaching experience.
In addition to books on Visual Basic, Deitel also has books on Java, C, C#, C++, and other common Internet oriented programming languages.

Ana mentioned you were starting to experiment with this too
I did a search in googles blogg space to get an idea (i) who you might want to link up with to attract interest around issues (such as you found) focused around VB programming… These two guys are in india… notice how they focused their site around a specific purpose….. http://www.blogger.com/profile/18150593740912394959
Its difficult to tell if they are making any money out of it though without (I guess simply) contacting them and asking them… how its going for them.
ASIDE: they need to get a decent following to make money from people coming in and ‘hopefully’ clicking on ads (that adsense delivers to their site).
ASIDE#2: I’ve been experimenting with adds on my own bloggs… Its interesting but out of 2000 accesses I made $2.40 from 1 click that I can’t trace where it came from or what ADVERT was clicked on to get some idea of interest…. (I hope I didn’t accidently do myself.. LOL)
I experimented with putting posts on facebook (get some traffic from there)
I started some targeted discussions in 5 LinkedIn groups (got three times the response from that)
I answered some questions put forward in LinkedIn (and am still evaluating that)
(ii)
The second area I would explore is Google Bloggs INTEREST entry in google bloggs profile. This will give you a quick heads up on how many people are into VB… You could then email them the link to this blogg entry… and ask them to comment on issues they had.. and how they got around it… YOU can then check your ADSENSE to see how effective that campaign was… BUT make sure you have ADSENSE installed in your bloggs… Its free and does help YOU get a better idea what ISSUES OTHERS are willing to ACT (click) on.
ASIDE: The LAST point is what interests me in this experiment… even if it pays $2.40… the (free) market research facility makes it worth looking into a bit further.
cheers
Thanks for the insights, Rob. I have had only one successful Adsense site, http://www.freegreetingcards.com. That site has been a steady revenue maker for several years now, even though it is basically invisible in Google’s organic search listings. Yahoo sees it more favorably and faithfully sends traffic.
I am about to attend a 4 week SEO/SEM course and hope to get the site eyed by an expert to see if I can’t increase traffic without losing revenue.
After all, there are many sites that get a ton of traffic but can barely generate a dime in Adsense revenue, while other less frequented ones are pulling in the green hand over fist.
If the course goes well, I will post on it and hopefully what I learn will be useful to you as well.
aahhh… okay… so you’ve been at it for while…. it was only after Ana mentioned it that I thought I’d experiment with it… its still mainly to help me get clarity on specific issues contractors have in their careers… I must say its impressive what they have done, and at times the adverts are relevant… but the tattoo removal ads.. are a bit disappointing… so I still got some work to do…. lol
